Friday, January 3rd - S'now Place Like Fort Myers

Brr—it was a chilly 52° this morning and the predicted high is only expected to reach 61°. We had to put our long pants back on! However we are not complaining—especially since the folks at home in Maryland had snow last night.

Son Andy's House-Picture:

Apparently, the sunshine was strong enough for the anhinga to dry its wings.

It was not warm enough for us to eat our breakfast on the lanai. We had locally grown fresh strawberries on our cereal.

Since it was too chilly for us to go to the beach or the swimming pool today, it was an easy decision for us to spend our time geocaching.

We rode around in a shopping center parking lot looking for a post office that the sign indicated was there and we couldn’t find it. We asked ourselves if we were not able find the post office, how could we expect to find any geocaches today. We stopped and asked three ladies who were walking in the parking about the post office. They were from out of town and they really were not sure where it was. We made a note to ourselves to not ask any more old people for directions because it is likely they are all out of town snowbirds. We eventually found the post office and mailed a post card to our granddaughter. When we found out that the postage rates are going up again later this month, we decided to wait before buying any more stamps.

While snow was falling at home, palm branches were falling here in Fort Myers.

As we drove through some neighborhoods, we found it strange to see Christmas decorations along with blooming bushes.

We enjoyed our time geocaching and before we knew it, at about 4:00 p.m., we were caught up in a lot of traffic. Cordell remarked that it was not a rush hour of people going home after a day of work, but was all the old people going to early bird dinner!

These are not snow clouds in the sky that we saw late this afternoon.

We cooked a spaghetti dinner at the condo tonight. We enjoyed eating it while watching the sun set. We agreed that it was a very good meal and couldn't decide if that was due to the wine we were drinking, the fact that we were not dealing with snow, the successful time we had geocaching  today or because of all three.

We have seen many photos of the snow back home and while it is very pretty, we are grateful that we can be right where we are now.

  1. I should THINK so! As hard as you worked to get AWAY from said beautiful snow, you should be HAPPY as clams to be down there away from it! I, on the other hand, went ahead a grabbed a few caches today after Tyler's birthday party! It's a LOT more work to find caches with snowcover than it is without it! However, I was up for the challenge today and found 5 out of 6! One was FROZEN down in it's hidey hole and I thought I was gonna have to go rent a blow torch to get it free! Diligent work with a sharp stick finally set it free! T'was a good day! :)
