Thursday, January 16th – Let the sunshine in!

I never thought I would enjoy hot chocolate in Fort Myers, but it tasted quite good this morning. Seeing green grass and flowers makes 50° seem a lot colder to me.

We received a video message from my granddaughter, Janelle, which shows that it was snowing in Maryland this morning. I really couldn’t complain about being cold after I saw that video. It was a good reminder of the reason we like to be here during this time of the year. But, I sure would like it to be twenty degrees warmer!

During our adventures out today, we stopped at a Goodwill Store. I was hoping to find a light weight vest because I don’t like wearing my winter fleece one in Florida. This store had no vests and only a few light weight jackets for sale. I saw people dressed in various weights of clothing today. I wore a long sleeved shirt, long pants and either a vest or a wind breaker. Other people were similarly dressed, but I did see some people wearing shorts and sweatshirts.

We drove by an interesting club. Almost all of the developments that I have seen are golf and country clubs or tennis clubs. But this one was a bath and tennis club.

Our travels took us to several shopping areas. We drove past a movie theater and I saw people in the parking lot waiting in a long line to get into the early matinee. It was different from what we see at home in that most all I could see were grey heads!

We had a nice lunch at The Outback and then took a 1 ½ mile round trip walk looking for a few more urban geocaches. Birds frequently are seen in populated areas. White ibises are always walking around in our neighborhood and crossing the streets. Today we saw a great egret and a wood stork along our way. Both of them are not as brave as the ibises and they moved away from us.

At one geocache site, we saw a palm tree or shrub growing out of a storm drain pipe. It must not get too wet for that plant.

There was a pretty sunset again tonight.

  1. I think that was a FAKE palm in the storm drain! There was a cache attached to the bottom of it! ;)
