I am not complaining—just making an
observation—but I sure wish it would warm up a bit more here in Fort Myers. The
past two years we wintered here we not have so many below 60° temperature
days. Even though the swimming pools are heated, I am not ready to bask in this
Florida sunshine yet.
After lunch, we took off on another
geocaching adventure. Two sites were very close together and both of them were
abandoned gas stations.
Our favorite site today, was beside
a lake where we watched an alligator swimming. There was a duck very nearby. I was
surprised that the duck didn’t seem alarmed and the alligator ignored it.
Either the gator doesn’t like that particular duck meat or it wasn’t hungry.
A great blue heron visited our lake
again today.
During our travels around town today, we saw a
seafood restaurant and upon doing an internet search, we discovered that Skip
One Seafood Restaurant was named after a fishing boat owned by the market’s
original owner back in the 60s. Today the restaurant’s owner and his partner have
the biggest shrimp boat fleet in Florida and their trawlers unload nearby at
their Fort Myers Beach packing house.
Wild caught Florida
shrimp is known as “pink gold;” it’s natural, fresh and flash frozen right out
of the nets. The flavor is salty/sweet, and the texture is appealing. Every
shrimp platter served at Skip One is hand peeled and deveined the day it is
served. We decided to eat dinner there tonight. My shrimp and oysters were
outstanding and I think we will be eating there again a few more times before
we go back home.
I am chillin' too! Laid back and chillin' out! Chillin' IN... and chillin' out. It's all ABOUT chillin' around here!!! :) Save me some of those shrimp and oysters! YUM!
