Friday, January 17th – Feels Like Home

Brrr—it was 69° degrees when we woke up this morning—and that was inside the condo. Outside it was 44°. This felt too much like being at home in Maryland! Cordell turned the heat on in the condo—the first time we have done this in the last three years that we have been wintering here.

Cordell talked to our upstairs neighbor, Al, this morning and asked him about fishing in the lake outside our lanai. Al told him that fishing was allowed, but Cordell should watch out for the alligator that lives on the island across from us because it frequently spends time on our side of the lake. Not a half hour later, Cordell was standing on the lanai and saw the alligator about 30 feet away.  It almost caught the two birds that hang around here.

We waited until after lunch when it had warmed up a bit to go on some adventures today. It turned out to be a beautiful afternoon to be outside. We visited several geocaches and found a really cute one named A Barrel of Fun. It was a tin can that contained several 35mm film canisters. Only one of them held the log that we needed to sign. Each of the others had a small trinket such as a tiny seashell or coin and a note that read “Sorry”.  We finally found the log in the next to the last canister we opened.

We had the most beautiful sunset tonight of all the ones we have seen so far. I was thanking God for the beautiful world He created and for honoring my heart’s desire to be out in that world. We are blessed.
