Monday, March 11th - Biking, Caching; Hiking, Caching—Day and Night.

Yesterday, Sunday, was an off day for me. I woke up with intestinal issues and felt I should stay close to “home”. So, this was the first Sunday we missed going to church since we left home. But, we were there on Wednesday, so we have worshipped at least every week.

 

We did take a 20 minute walk through our neighborhood.

 

Our first day on DST was a long one and the sun was still pretty high at 6:00 p.m. The sun sets at least an hour later here than at home.

 

 

I felt much better this morning (Monday), so we went on a geocaching excursion. We loaded up our bicycles and drove to an area where there is a series of caches hidden along a bike trail. It was a gorgeous day for biking.

 

 

 

At the beginning of our ride, we were confronted with water sprinklers on the adjacent golf course that were spraying water all over the sidewalk and even into the street. Fortunately, some of them shut off after we waited a few minutes, but we still had to go through a few others. I pedaled as fast as I could, but I still got a bit wet.

 

We found some very interesting and fun caches today---several of them which were placed by our local friend, Pilot searcher.

 

 

 

 

One involved using a grappling hook to retrieve a container that was inside a pipe.

 

 

 

 

 



When it was time for lunch, we got salads and a sandwich from the grocery store and ate outside at a table they had placed near their front door. I sure hope it warms up quickly at home so that we can eat outside there soon.

 

 

We came back to the condo and rested for a couple hours. Then we met Brian, a/k/a Pilot searcher, at Denny’s and had dinner together. He had offered to take us on our first night geocaching adventure. I wore jeans, a long sleeved shirt, a hat and hiking boots. When we arrived at the coordinates listed on the cache, we shined our flashlights around until we could see reflectors. Then we hiked to the reflectors and looked for another one, and another one, etc. until we arrived where the cache was placed which was marked by several reflectors.

 

 

 

 

We didn’t see any critters in the woods which was more than fine with me. There were quite a few spider webs, but most of them were easier to see with the flashlights than in the daylight. This particular cache was set up with additional reflectors to guide us back out of the woods. Otherwise, I suppose we would have had to use our app on our iPhones and wandered around some more.

 

This was a very different experience for me, but I don’t know if I will try caching in the woods at night again.
