February 26, 27 & 28 - How Time Flies!

Wednesday, February 26th:

The Four Florida Fogeys split up for part of the day. Jim and Barb went to a friend’s house at Fort Myers Beach. Cordell and I made a quick dash out to the store. I noticed that Walmart was selling plants for flower beds. Makes me feel like spring is already here and I have forgotten what the weather is still like at home.

I prepared my chicken Parmesan dish for dinner tonight. Barb had bought fresh green beans from a farmer’s market which she added to our meal.

The guys had no problems finding ways to occupy themselves while Barb and I were cooking.

We continued to work on geocache puzzles which seem to be obsessing us. But first, we ate dinner as we need to keep our strength up for geocaching.

Thursday, February 27th:

We spent most of the morning trying to figure out the solutions to geocache puzzles.

I helped Barb prepare Garden Basil Pesto Basil Soup, a recipe that I think was posted on Facebook recently. In the meantime, I made chicken salad. We had a very filling lunch.

Cordell was anxious to return to two sites where we had not been successful in finding the geocaches that had been placed there. Both had recently been found by other cachers. The four of us gave our very best efforts in searching and we still could not find the caches. Barb wanted to find some waterproof folding guides. On our way back home, we stopped at two stores where we thought we had found them in the past. Once again, we did not find what we were looking for. So we were 0 for 4 in our hunts this day.

 Friday, February 28th:

It was quite chilly outside when we got up this morning--56° which is a big change from what it has been this past week. All of us dressed in long pants and were comfortable. The high temperature was 72° today. It was still a beautiful day for Cordell's birthday.

He shared a profound observation with us.

Cordell found several geocache puzzles on line and he assigned them to each of us to solve. None of us appear to be adept at this task and so we worked on them all morning.

We discovered that the person who was not able to solve his/her assigned puzzle had to wash the dishes.

A sudoko puzzle was especially difficult for us and when we came to a stopping point, I got a bright idea. I sent it to our daughter-in-law, Corinne, and begged for her help. She not only solved it, but she sent the solution to us in about ½ hour. I wish we had done it sooner. Once I had the correct answers, I continued to work on it until I finally did solve it too.

After lunch, we took a walk through our neighborhood. Barb especially likes one house that has a nice water fountain in the front yard.

Back at the condo, we continued to work on the puzzle caches we can’t solve and wondered who else we might enlist to help us.

Jim and Barb treated us to dinner. Cordell chose to go to Pincher’s Crab Shack where we have eaten in the past. Since 1997, Pinchers has operated with a simple mission - local fishermen fishing local waters for a local restaurant. This family owned business now has nine restaurants and is one of Southwest Florida’s largest employers. They offer call ahead seating so we were seated immediately upon our arrival.

Cordell and Jim ate a couple of stone crabs claws which are very different from our Maryland blue crabs. We also ate oysters and the delicious gulf shrimp. We agreed that sharing a nice meal was a great way to celebrate a birthday.
