After breakfast this morning, we took a walk around the neighborhood. I
know that when warm weather arrives at home, we will need to get this exercise
early in the day when it is cooler. I do think the angle to this Florida
sunshine at this time of the year makes it feel much warmer than in Maryland.
We went to Hope Lutheran Church for the Ash Wednesday
morning service. I was a bit surprised at the number of people who were there,
but when I noticed most all of them were our ages, I understood that like us,
they probably wanted to remain at home during the evening.
After church, we made a couple of stops, one of which
included lunch at Johnny Rockets. For a while, it seemed like we were back in
our teenage days as we listened to so many of the old rock and roll songs we
knew so well.
Barb and Jim returned from their short trip to Key West. We
had bought tickets to the Twins vs. Orioles game which was played tonight at
Minnesota’s spring training home stadium. The Twins are the process of a
$44,000,000 reconstruction project at this facility. We think the Ed Smith
Stadium in Sarasota is much nicer and they seem to have more fan interaction throughout
the game.
Orioles fans were definitely in the minority here, but there
were enough of us to make a good noise.
I found out from one of the stadium employees that there is
some term in some contract that the traveling team is only required to play two
of their regular roster players. We didn’t see very many of the men who will be
playing in Baltimore this year. Our team
had a bad start as a result from some untimely errors, but they came back and
got a big lead which they never gave up. A lead is never a sure thing during
these games because so many different players being constantly put in the game.
There was a fireworks display after the game, but we didn’t
stay for it. We had parked far enough away that a tram transported us back to
our car. We were able to see the fireworks from the tram and our driver stopped
along the way so that we all could enjoy the show and take photos.
