Today, we made a trip to Sun Harvest Citrus store to pick a
couple of items for Barb Hauser. This is the fourth time we have been to this
store since January and each time we sample the free orange juice and citrus
slices that are available. The honey tangerines were especially tasty today.
We made a video at one of them that Barbara had solved since
she had to leave town before we got a chance to look for it. It required
identification of several trees pictured on the cache page.
Barbara and Cordell worked a long time solving another puzzle that
required identifying birds and ducks. This is a series of 34 caches placed in an
area of preserved cypress forest and pond apple sloughs. It is managed by the
CREW Land and Water Trust, a private, non-profit conservation organization
dedicated to the preservation and stewardship of the water resources and
natural communities in and around the Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed
(CREW). We wanted to scope out the trails to determine if I really could ride
my bicycle on them.
We met a local man near the parking lot who had a camera on
a tripod and was waiting to photograph a hawk that nested in a tree. He has
been on the entire 13 mile loop and told us that riding a bike on the hard
packed grass is possible. He further advised us that we would see many
alligators, some of which could possibly be on the trail.
We walked further down the trail to a boardwalk and did see
a few small alligators along the canal.
When we reached an information board, we met a geocacher who had biked part of the trail with his brother. We had an interesting conversation with them and after they left we found one of the geocaches on the sign.
It was 82° this afternoon and we decided that we
will come back tomorrow and bike at least a part of this trail.
