Tuesday, February 11th - Biking in the park.

We woke up this morning anxious to go back to Lakes Park armed with the additional information our geofriend, Brian, gave us last night and look for his puzzle cache that had stumped us a few days ago,
This time, we took our bicycles with us and rode the trails instead of walking. We spent a total of 3 hours at the park and still would like to go back again.

We had visited one of the cache sites briefly 2 days ago when we were looking for other caches in the park, but had to abort our search because our parking meter was expiring and we were on foot. When we headed off the trail today, we heard a loud rustling noise coming directly from where we knew ground zero was. We both immediately stopped because we remembered the huge rattlesnake we had seen lying off the trail the last time we were here. I surmised that it was probably just a squirrel. But Cordell told me the noise was way too loud to be a squirrel. I asked him if he heard it grunt like people have told us that alligators do. And thankfully, there was no grunt. Then I began to imagine a panther or a bear. Finally two other cachers emerged from behind the tree. Together we searched for the cache and it was found.

We stopped for lunch at the snack bar before continuing on our ride.

One of the miniature towns that the train passes through is visible from the bike trail. It depicts Carlson Citrus, one of the orange growers and I especially liked the truck trailer filled with tiny oranges.

We did finally find Brian’s cache, but had to call him while we were on site for more help. I did not come out of the bush unscathed. The palm leaves are razor sharp and they can cut a person very quickly.

Brian had recommended a local restaurant and we decided to eat our dinner there tonight. I remarked to Cordell that I could see only old people throughout the entire restaurant. He replied that southwest Florida is filled with only old people.
