Christmas morning around our
house was very quiet as has been our custom for several years. It is a day of
mixed emotions for me because I always miss the presence of our mothers who in previous years had
spent several nights with us before and after Christmas Eve.
Our Elf on the Shelf appeared in
the crèche this morning reminding us that “…at the name
of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and
every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord”.
Since Andy and his family live
near us in Chesapeake Beach, we spent the afternoon with them. We had already
planned on stopping to find a geocache which was recently placed at Hutchins
Pond and it was along our way. We been there the day before and found another cache,
but saved this one so that we could fill in this date on our calendar of found
geocaches.
It was a few degrees colder
today. It looks like winter has decided to stay in Maryland although the robins
don’t seem to be concerned about it. Are they trying to tell us that it will be
a mild winter here?
We had a nice dinner with Andy,
Corinne, Janelle and Paulette (Corinne’s mother). Corinne served homemade
lasagna and it evoked good memories of times we had spent in Italy with our
friends. The wine flowed freely and we enjoyed our time together.
I especially liked the way that
Janelle wrapped her gift (a potato masher) to her mom. We all laughed at her humor which she has
inherited from her father and grandfather.
Janelle received an iPad mini and Andy wrapped it up to look like a vacuum cleaner. Apparently, the old quote “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” is true.
At our age, we enjoy giving gifts more than receiving them. However, I really like the Duck Dynasty pillow and blanket that Andy's family gave me.
At the end of the evening, I found myself reluctant to leave knowing that we were going to be away for the next three months. But, I am hopeful that Andy and his family will be able to visit us while we are in Florida.
